Situado en el distrito oeste de Coimbatore, la capital del distrito es un punto de entrada desde Kerala. La primera fábrica de textiles de Coimbatore fue establecida en el año 1888 y desde entonces ya se ha convertido en la capital de textiles. Coimbatore también tiene fama por la fabricación de bombas de motor y varios productos de ingeniería además de sus productos de tela. Un gran número de institutos técnicos en Coimbatore suministran las necesidades técnicas crecientes de la región.

Coimbatore known as the Manchester of South, is also the most industrialised city of the state of Tamil Nadu. Due to the Nilgiri mountains in the western side, it experiences a pleasant climte throughout the year. The rich soil served as the backbone for the agricultural products, especially cotton. The first textile mill of Coimbatore was establishe in the year 1888 and since then it also became the textile capital. Coimbatore is also known for the manufacture of motor pump sets and varied engineering goods and its handloom products. A large number of technical institutions in Coimbatore cater to the growing technical needs of the region.
